Pennsylvania Injury Prevention Symposium
From Planning to Implementation
April 8-9, 2010

Plan to attend the 2010 Injury Prevention Symposium scheduled for April 8-9, 2010, at the Holiday Inn Harrisburg-Hershey in Grantville, PA. This statewide conference will focus on key elements of injury prevention—Adolescent Youth Safety; Child Passenger Safety; Data on Violent Injuries; Early Childhood Youth Safety; Falls of the Elderly; Farm/ATV Safety; PA’s first Safe Communities Designation; Motor Vehicles; Prescription Drug Poisonings; Sports Injuries; Violence against Women; Youth Suicide; as well as provide additional information on awareness and prevention.

These key elements will teach participants about the development, implementation and sustainability of injury prevention and injury awareness programs as well as best practices that are shared and supported by policymakers, healthcare providers, statewide agencies, law enforcement, schools and the community at-large.

The keynote speaker will be Carolyn Cumpsty-Fowler, PhD, Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and School of Nursing; Director, Injury Prevention Program, Baltimore County Department of Health.

Who should attend?

Injury prevention advocates, safety specialists, trauma coordinators, coroners, State Health Improvement Plan Affiliated Partnerships, Single County Authorities, Area Agencies on Aging, Communities That Care, Safe Kids partners, Child Death Review Team members and all who work to prevent injuries.

Delay or Cancellation Procedures:
Due to inclement weather (snow, ice, flooding, etc.) or other emergencies workshops may be delayed or cancelled. Registrants are responsible for calling the Center for Schools and Communities Automated Voice Messaging System at (717) 763-1661, Option 3 after 6:30 a.m. the day of the conference/workshop. The system is updated as conditions change, so it is necessary to call for any changes prior to leaving for your scheduled conference/workshop.

Lodging:

Lodging costs will be covered on the nights of Wednesday, April 7, 2010 and Thursday, April 8, 2010 on a first come, first served basis for participants traveling more than 50 miles one way to attend. Reservations will be made at the Holiday Inn Grantville, Exit 80, I-81, 604 Station Road, Grantville, PA 17028. Reservations must be made through the Center for Schools and Communities no later than Friday, March 5, 2010. Cancellations must be made at least forty-eight hours in advance or the attendee is responsible for the hotel costs. Please indicate your needs when you register.
